It's about to get brutally hot in Central Ohio, with temps in the mid-90s for the next few days and that kind of heat can be deadly for dogs left in cars.

Can you legally break a car window to save a dog?

The answer is yes thanks to Ohio's Good Samaritan Law. But you have to follow the steps:

  • Make sure the car is locked
  • Believe the animal is in danger
  • Call 911 first or immediately after
  • Use only reasonable force
  • Stay at the scene and wait for help

You're legally protected as long as you do it right.

When it's 90°F outside, the inside of a car can hit over 110°F in just 30 minutes. And dogs can't sweat like we can so they overheat fast.

Don't leave your pets in the car.

Not "just for a second." Not "while you grab milk." Just don't.
