McDonald's Boo Buckets Are Back… and My Inner '90s Kid Is SCREAMING!

halloween-banner

Some things just take you right back to being a kid, and McDonald's Halloween Boo Buckets are absolutely one of them!

Remember when getting a Happy Meal in October meant you got to take home a little plastic pumpkin or ghost bucket? Then you'd use it to collect Halloween candy, carry your toys, or proudly display it because it was basically your most prized possession.

Well, MY INNER '90s KID IS THRIVING RIGHT NOW! 🎃

McDonald's is bringing back its iconic Halloween Boo Buckets on Tuesday, October 20, and this year they're getting a Disney Villains makeover!

There are FIVE designs to collect:

🧡 Scar from The Lion King – Orange
🤍 Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians – White
💜 Ursula from The Little Mermaid – Purple
💚 Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty – Green
❤️ Jafar from Aladdin – Red

Each one comes with your Happy Meal of choice and a sheet of villain-inspired stickers!

Maybe it's the nostalgia talking, but there's just something about seeing these buckets return that makes me ridiculously happy. It's a little piece of our childhood coming back, except now we're the adults who can drive ourselves to McDonald's and buy all five. ADULT MONEY, PEOPLE.

And now that I'm a mom, getting to share little pieces of my childhood with my own kid makes it even sweeter.

So yes, I'm counting down the days. Yes, I'll probably be making multiple McDonald's trips. And no, I will not be accepting judgment. 😂

Dirty Soda Fans, This One's for You! Popular Soda Shop Eyes First Ohio Location in Grove City

Central Ohio could be getting a little sweeter!

Swig, the popular Utah-based dirty soda chain, is looking to open its very first Ohio location in Grove City!

According to news sources, the company submitted plans on October 10 to move into the former Rally's location at 1939 Stringtown Road.

Wait... What's a Dirty Soda?

If you haven't jumped on the dirty soda trend yet, here's the deal. Take your favorite soda and mix in flavored syrups, fruit, purees, or cream to create a customized drink.

Founded in Utah in 2010, Swig has grown to more than 180 locations nationwide and helped turn dirty sodas into a social media sensation.

And if soda isn't your thing, Swig also offers customizable water-based refreshers, energy drinks, cookies, and other sweet treats.

When Could It Open?

Not so fast! The Grove City location is still in the planning stages and awaiting approval. No official opening date has been announced.

But if everything moves forward, Central Ohio could soon have its very own Swig!

Route 103.9: IT'S ALMOST HOCKEY SEASON!

cbj-blog-banner-

Oh, somehow, we blinked, and hockey season is almost here. 🏒

Seriously… how?!

It feels like we were just wrapping up last season, and now we're already talking about getting back inside Nationwide Arena, hearing the cannon again, and joining the rest of Columbus in cheering on our Columbus Blue Jackets.

And listen, I love a good theme. Give me a reason to dress up, lean into some nostalgia or turn a regular night out into an entire event and I am THERE.

Well… CBJ understood the assignment.

The Columbus Blue Jackets just unveiled their 2026–27 theme nights and special ticket packages, and we're already trying to figure out which ones need to go on the calendar.

First Things First:
Opening Night Is October 1

Circle Thursday, October 1, because that's when the Blue Jackets officially return to Nationwide Arena for Opening Night, presented by Nationwide.

Fans attending will also receive a 2026–27 Blue Jackets calendar, which seems appropriate because you're about to need somewhere to write down all of these theme nights.

🎃 Hockey Halloween + PEANUTS?!

Okay, this one is ridiculously cute.

On Saturday, October 24, CBJ celebrates Halloween AND the 60th anniversary of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

The night includes a CBJ x Peanuts Trick-or-Treat Pillowcase Giveaway, plus there's a special Peanuts ticket package featuring a CBJ-themed Snoopy & Woodstock Bobblehead.

Hockey + Halloween + Snoopy?

Columbus families may have just found their October plans.

💜 Hockey Fights Cancer Night

One of the most meaningful nights of the season returns on Thursday, November 5 with Hockey Fights Cancer Night,

Fans can expect an "I Fight For" T-shirt giveaway, and a special ticket package will also be available.

It's one of those nights that reminds you sports can be about so much more than the final score.

Military Appreciation Night

On Thursday, November 12, CBJ will honor the men and women who serve during Military Appreciation Night!

A special ticket package will be available, including a themed wearable.

🎄 Hockey Holidays

If your December plans need a little more hockey and holiday magic, CBJ has you covered.

Hockey Holidays runs December 10–22, including Santa Stinger appearances and even LIVE REINDEER on December 22.

There's also a Hanukkah ticket package available during the holiday celebrations.

🦸 Marvel Night Is Coming to Nationwide Arena

This one is brand new.

On Saturday, December 19, the Avengers and Dr. Doom take over Nationwide Arena for Marvel Night.

The theme night comes just one day after the theatrical release of Avengers: Doomsday, and fans who purchase the special ticket package will receive a Jet Greaves bobblehead featuring a detachable Dr. Doom mask.

Yes, we're apparently combining superheroes and hockey now.

No complaints here.

🎉 Ring In 2027 With CBJ?! YES PLEASE.

Don't have New Year's Eve plans yet?

The Blue Jackets host New Year's Eve at Nationwide Arena on Thursday, December 31.

Honestly, hockey → cannon → celebrate the new year sounds like a pretty solid Columbus NYE.

Kids Takeover ( THE BEST)

One of the best things about supporting local sports is getting the NEXT generation excited about them, too.

On Saturday, January 24, it's Kids Takeover, presented by Bob Evans Farms, complete with a kids giveaway that will be announced later.

🚒 First Responders Night

On Saturday, January 30, CBJ celebrates the people who show up for our communities every single day with First Responders Night, presented by Jet's Pizza.

A special ticket package featuring a themed wearable will also be available.

🌈 Hockey Is For Everyone

Hockey Is For Everyone Night returns Thursday, February 11,  with a lapel pin giveaway.

An LGBTQ+ Pride ticket package featuring a themed wearable will also be available.

COME TO THE DARK SIDE FOR STAR WARS NIGHT!

Okay.

You knew we were getting here.

On Saturday, February 20, CBJ celebrates the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope with Star Wars-themed entertainment throughout Nationwide Arena.

There's also a special ticket package featuring a Star Wars-inspired CBJ wearable.

The Force AND the 5th Line?

We will absolutely allow it. Love you forever Vader.

🍀 St. Patrick's Day

Grab something green because CBJ celebrates St. Patrick's Day on Tuesday, March 16.

Hockey + St. Patrick's Day in Columbus feels like the kind of combination that requires very little explanation.

💥 And Then We Celebrate THE 5TH LINE

This might be the most Columbus night of them all.

On Saturday, March 27, it's the 5th Line Celebration, featuring a Kepi giveaway.

Because the Blue Jackets aren't just the guys on the ice. The 5th Line is Columbus.

It's the families bringing their kids to their first hockey game. It's the longtime fans who know exactly when that cannon is coming and still jump anyway. It's the jerseys around the Arena District. It's strangers high-fiving after a goal.

That's what makes local sports special.

Supporting Local Sports Just Hits Different

There's something pretty great about having a major-league team right here in our backyard.

Going to a Blue Jackets game isn't only about watching hockey. It's dinner somewhere downtown before puck drop. It's making memories with your family. It's introducing your kids to a sport you love. It's running into someone you know in the concourse. It's being part of an arena full of Central Ohioans all rooting for the same thing.

Local sports give a city something to rally around.

And when Columbus shows up for CBJ, we're supporting the team, the people who work the games, businesses around the Arena District and the larger community that makes nights at Nationwide Arena feel like our nights.

That's why we're proud to be part of the 5th Line.

There Are Even More Special Ticket Packages

Beyond the official theme nights, CBJ announced several special ticket packages with exclusive items, including:

  • Oct. 24: Snoopy & Woodstock Bobblehead
  • Nov. 5: Ivan and Drake Provorov Bobblehead
  • Nov. 12: Military Appreciation themed wearable
  • Dec. 19: Marvel Night Jet Greaves Bobblehead
  • Jan. 8: Jerry Garcia themed wearable
  • Jan. 30: First Responders Night themed wearable
  • Feb. 11: LGBTQ+ Pride themed wearable
  • Feb. 20: Star Wars: A New Hope 50th Anniversary themed wearable
  • Mar. 13: CBJ-styled Hawaiian shirt

CBJ says additional ticket packages and promotions may also be announced later.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Looking for an Affordable Family Night?

The Columbus Dispatch Family Value Pack will be available for every Blue Jackets home game this season.

Packages start at $35 per person and include a game ticket, an OhioHealth Chiller Skate Pass and a value meal with your choice of a hot dog, hamburger or chicken fingers, plus a rotating side and Pepsi product.

So… Which Night Are YOU Picking? Theme nights. Giveaways. The cannon. Stinger. The 5th Line.

Yeah… we're ready for hockey season.

Single-game tickets are already on sale, and the special ticket packages went on sale Friday, August 14 at 10 a.m.

Now comes the important question:

Which CBJ theme night are you gearing up for? 🎃🏒🌌🦸

We'll see you there.

LET'S GO JACKETS! 💙❤️

Route 1039: What’s New at Nationwide Arena This Blue Jackets Season

BLOG-BANNER--HOCKEY-2026-2027

Forget Christmas. Forget pumpkin spice season. THIS is the most wonderful time of the year.

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS HOCKEY IS BACK!

There is just something about walking into Nationwide Arena, hearing the cannon, seeing everyone in their CBJ gear and remembering that for the next several months, we all collectively have something to yell about.

And before the puck officially drops on the 2026-27 season, I got a little sneak peek at what's coming this year during the Blue Jackets media preview.

Spoiler alert: my wallet is already in danger.

Between the new food, drinks, apparel and collectibles, I walked out ready for hockey season — and with a tiny CBJ hockey helmet stress ball that I will absolutely be keeping in the studio to deal with Kirsch.

That's called planning ahead.

Okay, But Let's Talk About the FOOD. 🍴🏒

One of my favorite parts of getting a sneak peek at the new season was seeing what we'll be eating at Nationwide Arena this year.

And yes, I took this assignment VERY seriously (no matter what Kirsch says about my pickiness).

I got to try the Burnt End Mac & Cheese and the Southwestern Caesar Salad, and both were YUMMMMMY. The mac & cheese has pork belly burnt ends, BBQ sauce, cavatappi pasta, creamy Vermont white cheddar and French-fried onions. The salad has romaine, cotija cheese, roasted corn, black beans, red peppers, crispy tortilla strips and Caesar dressing.

But there are a LOT of new things to try this season, and where you're sitting will determine what you can get. So here's your cheat sheet:

🌭 CONCESSIONS

These are the new items you'll want to look for around the concession areas:

Pimento Fried Rice — $13.99
Fried rice, onion, bell pepper, celery, red kidney beans, black garlic sauce, pimento cheese and bonito flakes.

Surf & Turf Burger — $17.99
Burger patty topped with lobster salad and white American cheese. Because apparently we are fancy at hockey games now.

Loaded Tempura Shrimp — $10.99
Fried tempura shrimp, roasted corn, sambal aioli, popcorn ranch and sesame seeds.

Walki Talki — $11.49
Blue Takis, lettuce, ground beef, sour cream, pico and shredded pepper jack.

I feel like ordering something called a Walki Talki at a hockey game is an experience I need to have at least once.

🍕 MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

And if you're a pizza person, Jet's CBJ Pizza will be available at multiple locations throughout Nationwide Arena.

You can grab an individual pizza for $11.49, with larger sizes also available.

🍹 NEW BEVERAGES

There are some new drink options coming this season, too:

Mock-So Mule — A non-alcoholic option with housemade smoked blueberry syrup, lime juice, ginger ale and mint.

Blueberry Old Fashioned — Wild Turkey 101, housemade smoked blueberry syrup, orange bitters and Luxardo.

Sweater Weather — Crown Apple Whiskey, apple cider and vanilla simple syrup.

Feeling Peachy — New Amsterdam Vodka, tea liqueur, peach, sour and pink lemonade.

And because the culinary team apparently understood the assignment, the preview even had suggested food pairings for the drinks.

So basically my strategy this season is simple:

Come hungry.

Because between watching hockey, yelling when the cannon goes off, buying merch I absolutely do not need, and slowly eating my way through Nationwide Arena, I'm going to be VERY busy this Blue Jackets season.

🏒 CLUB LEVEL

If you're watching from the Club Level, you've got a few different additions:

Spicy Chicken Stack — $13.99
Fried Cowboy Candy, dill pickle cabbage and buttermilk popcorn ranch.

Korean Beef Nachos — $14.99
Queso blanco, gochujang aioli, bulgogi beef, cotija, charred corn, scallions and pickled onion.

Mediterranean Chopped Salad — $13.99

Chopped greens, chicken shawarma, cucumber, tomato, roasted chickpeas, pickled onion, feta and herb vinaigrette.

🍽️ SUITES

This is where you'll find the two things I got to try!

Southwestern Caesar Salad — $70, serves 12
Romaine hearts, cotija cheese, roasted corn, black beans, red peppers, crispy tortilla strips and Caesar dressing.

Burnt End Mac & Cheese — $115, serves 12
Pork belly burnt ends, BBQ sauce, cavatappi pasta, creamy Vermont white cheddar and French-fried onions.

MY PICK. SO GOOD.

There's also:

Root Beer Float Poutine — $75, serves 12
Funnel cake fries, root beer syrup, funnel cake-battered cheese curds, whipped topping and maraschino cherries.

Yes. You read that correctly. ROOT BEER FLOAT POUTINE.

Jet's Veggie Pizza — $42, serves 12
Jet's deep dish topped with sauce, mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, black olives and tomatoes.

🎰 FANATICS SPORTSBOOK

Over at Fanatics Sportsbook, look for:

Salmon Burger — $13.99
Housemade salmon patty, lemon-caper aioli, baby arugula and pickled onion.

Pork Belly BLT — $12.99
Griddled sourdough, hand-cut pork belly, arugula, tomatoes, pickled onion and ancho-garlic aioli.

Jalapeño Poppers — $10.99
Deep-fried jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and topped with wild berry drizzle.

That last combination sounds JUST weird enough that I need someone to try it and report back.

The Merch Situation Is Also Dangerous

If you know me, you know I LOVE merch.

I went into the preview thinking, Oh, I'll just see what they have.

That was adorable.

There were so many new pieces I wanted — and now that I'm a mom, the problem has doubled because I don't just want CBJ stuff for myself.

I want it for my son, too.

Tiny Blue Jackets apparel? Come on. How am I supposed to say no to that?!

The Blue Line has fresh styles for the season at both Nationwide Arena and Polaris Fashion Place, so consider this your warning that you may enter intending to buy one thing and leave looking like you were just drafted by the organization.

I Also Have a New Collecting Problem...

This might be one of my favorite additions this season.

The Blue Jackets have launched The Monthly Buzz, a new collectible series featuring Stinger. On the first of every month, The Blue Line will release a new themed Stinger pin AND matching hockey puck.

The puck is $17.99, the pin is $14.99, and the matching set is $22.99 online while supplies last.

So naturally my brain immediately went:

"Well...now I need ALL of them."

Because you can't get October and then just stop in November. That's not how collecting works. Those are the rules.

Circle These CBJ Theme Nights 👀

There are some REALLY fun nights coming this season.

...

103.9 The Maverick - Route 103.9: IT'S ALMOST HOCKEY SEASON!

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced their 2026-27 theme nights! See the full CBJ lineup, including Snoopy, Marvel, Star Wars and more.

See You at Nationwide 💙❤️

Maybe it's the cannon.

Maybe it's Stinger.

Maybe it's the food.

Maybe it's the excuse to buy another sweatshirt I absolutely do not need.

Maybe it's watching my son get to experience all of these things now, too.

But there really is something special about hockey season in Columbus.

So dust off the jerseys. Start planning which theme nights you're going to. Decide which new food you're trying first. Make room on the shelf for those monthly pucks.

The 5th Line is back. The cannon is ready. And the most wonderful time of the year has officially arrived.

LET'S GO JACKETS! 🏒💙❤️

There’s a Lot of Life Left on Your Setlist ❤️

world-heart-day-banner

Every year on September 29, people around the world recognize World Heart Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular disease and reminding all of us that taking care of our hearts matters.

For me, this day is personal.

If you've followed me for any amount of time, you probably know that the American Heart Association has become one of the causes closest to my heart. I've had the privilege of using my microphone, my platform, and our incredible Maverick Family to support the American Heart Association's mission, and I plan to keep doing so long after World Heart Day is over.

Why World Heart Day Matters

Cardiovascular disease remains the world's leading cause of death, and here in the United States, heart disease continues to impact millions of families.

But awareness can lead to action.

The American Heart Association reminds us that better cardiovascular health can lower our risk of heart disease, stroke and other major health problems. And some of the things we can do to protect ourselves and the people we love are surprisingly simple: know your numbers, move more, make heart-healthy choices and learn CPR.

That last one is especially powerful.

According to the American Heart Association, CPR performed immediately can double or even triple a person's chance of survival after cardiac arrest.

You don't have to be a doctor, nurse, EMT or first responder to potentially save someone's life.

You just have to be willing to learn.

Heart to Heart with Emyle ❤️

I call this Heart to Heart with Emyle for a reason.

I want this to be a place where we can have real heart-to-hearts about the things that matter — our families, our health, the people we love, the things we're going through, and the life we're still busy building.

But those conversations have another side, too: taking care of the heart that lets us be here for it all.

Because we can talk about chasing dreams, making memories, showing up for our people and living life BIG — but taking care of our heart gives us the chance to keep doing those things.

That's why heart health has become something I'm so passionate about and why I'll keep using my voice to talk about it.

Heart to Heart with Emyle is about the important stuff. The real-life stuff. And sometimes, that means reminding each other to know our numbers, make the appointment, move our bodies, learn CPR, and take our heart health seriously.

Because there is SO much life left to live. ❤️
